Mt. Carmel CEO chosen for Leadership Kansas
If Jonathan Davis, President and CEO of Mt Carmel Regional Medical Center, I was told, he was nominated for Leadership Kansas, he did not really expect to be elected.
“If we call, the nature with which it has a grain of salt,” said Davis. “So, I went through the application process. I do not have high expectations, because there were 500 candidates and 40 people are selected. So it was a surprise when I was selected. ”
Davis is represented Pittsburg under the Leadership Kansas, a program designed to develop and motivate the heads of state in the future.
While only 40 people are ultimately the selected program, Leadership Kansas official said that more than 700 people have been nominated, and nearly 150 applications.
“What we hope to do is not to deal with the training of managers and executives,” said John Federico, director of the Leadership Kansas. “People have been selected as a group leader in the community already. We want to put you in different themes in different parts of the country, they return to their communities and lead. ”
The program is in its 30th year of existence, and is associated with the Chamber of Kansas.
“Like many of the more than 1000 Leadership Kansas distinguished former demonstrate power, the graduates leave more trained, equipped and shoulder energetisiert important leadership role in their respective responsibilities of Commons,” said Teresa Clounch, President Leadership Kansas Board of Trustees.
The programme consists of a multitude of experts, training and meetings with other municipalities and businesses to all companies in Kansas. Leadership Garden visit Kansas City, Manhattan / Junction City, Kansas City, Hays, Hutchinson / Wichita and Lawrence / Topeka. Topics include the economy, education, agriculture, public order, health and the development of society, economy and government.
“We spend two hours and a half-day each month, from May to October, in another city,” said Federico. “Each city has been attributed to a wide range of topics, from their location. For example, the water Hays, tele-medicine and rural employment. Garden City, immigration and agriculture. Wichita, the manufacturing sector. ”
Davis said his goal is to understand the needs of the state.
“It is informed by an understanding of the environment of Kansas,” said Davis. “What are the different businesses as well as agriculture and what are the different makeups that drive our economy? What are the different possibilities of education, public order?
“I come from a public health perspective, so that we can talk to the employer, what are the trends, what their needs are, in this perspective. We need to understand what their needs are. ”

Davis said he plans to take to the ideas in the program back to Pittsburg.
“We look often in our profession as one that relates,” said Davis. “I see this as a great opportunity to serve.”
Federico said that more than 20 people in south-eastern Kansas have the program since its inception.
