Baker University honors partners-in-progress
Baker University Lawrence honour four residents for their business achievements and contributions of civic participation.
Gary Sollars, Connie Sollars, Larry McElwain and Fred DeVictor recognized during the University of annual consumption of partners-in-progress for breakfast is 7:30 pm Tuesday, Spring Hill Suites by Marriott in downtown Lawrence.
The annual awards program is designed so that the private school of Baldwin City a chance to thank leaders who have contributed to enjoy and Lawrence Douglas County.
The prizes and winners:
• People, Business of the Year: Gary Sollars and his wife Connie.
Gary Sollars is Vice President of Hilb Rogal & Hobbs, Netherlands, the eighth largest insurance broker, and previously as President and Chief Executive Officer of Charlton Manley Inc. He is a former president of the independent Insurance Agents of Kansas director for the past and the Kansas Independent Insurance Agents of America; distinctions among received, it is the President’s Award from the Independent insurance agent of America.
Connie Sollars has served as co-chair a $ 3 million for a joint campaign of Plymouth, the capital of the church, among other responsibilities, and is a member of the Board of Directors of Lawrence Memorial Hospital Endowment Association, including his service as chairman during an $ 8 million capital campaign.
Both are graduates of Baker.
• Outstanding Leadership in Business and Performance Award: McElwain, co-owner, Warren McElwain Mortuary and president of the 21st century Funeral Co. LC.
McElwain was Lawrence business over 30 years and served as chairman of the Chamber of Commerce Lawrence in 2003-04. He was a member of the Kansas Funeral Directors Association since 1973 and led the organization in 1986-87. He served in Dir Kathleen Sebelius “Business-Education Partnership program in 2004-07.
• Civic Service Award: DeVictor, former director of Lawrence Parks and Recreation.
DeVictor retirement in March 2007, after 32 years of service, during the parks in the city increased from 12 to 52, and now includes more than 3,500 hectares. He was elected to the Kansas Park and Recreation Association’s Hall of Fame this year and last year, won the Buford M. Watson, Jr. Public Service Award from the Chamber of Commerce Lawrence.
